What types of COVID-19 testing does St. Nicholas Medical Center offer?
St.Nicholas Medical Center is offering COVID-19 evaluations and testing to help support our patients health care needs amid the pandemic.
Please note that for the most accurate COVID-19 test results, for individuals who are not showing symptoms, but who have had close contact with an individual who has tested positively for COVID-19, wait five to seven days after the known exposure to get a COVID-19 test.
Additionally, Bulgarian Ministry of Health recommend self-quarantining for 10 days after a known exposure to COVID-19, even if no symptoms are present.
What is the difference between a COVID-19 send-out PCR lab test and rapid antigen test?
Every individual who seeks COVID-19-related care at a St. Nicholas Medical Center will receive an evaluation by one of our health care professionals who will help determine if a COVID-19 test is needed, as well as the most appropriate method for testing. Our testing capabilities currently include both:

COVID-19 Send-Out PCR Lab Test
The Bulgarian Ministry of Health recommends the COVID-19 send-out PCR lab test, as it is considered the most sensitive.

COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test
The COVID-19 rapid antigen test provides results in less time. However, they are less sensitive* than the COVID-19 send-out PCR lab test.
What type of COVID-19 test will I receive?
St. Nicholas Medical Center is currently offering both COVID-19 rapid antigen testing and send-out PCR lab testing.
Following an evaluation, our health care professionals will determine the most appropriate method of testing, based on:

Do I need a doctor’s referral to be tested for COVID-19 at a St. Nicholas Medical Center ?
No, you do not need a referral from your doctor to be tested.
Can I use a Virtual Visit to determine if I need a COVID-19 test?
Yes, you can. Virtual Visits are an important tool that we’re using to support social distancing and to allow for added convenience. Virtual Visits are an easy and safe way to determine if it is medically recommended for you to be tested for COVID-19.

When will I receive my COVID-19 test results?

COVID-19 Send-Out PCR Lab Test
Send-out PCR lab test results typically take 12 maximum 24 hours to return from our lab partner. Please note that the return of results within the estimated timeframe is subject to laboratory capabilities and resources. We’ll call you with results as soon as they are received.

The COVID-19 rapid antigen test generally provides results during your visit (15minutes).
